The CM579-ETHCAT is an EtherCAT master communication module for the ABB AC500 PLC family. It allows the AC500 controller to manage up to 126 EtherCAT slave devices (drives, remote I/O, encoders and valves) in a high-performance motion and I/O network on one controller.
Data exchange per EtherCAT station reaches 128 bytes in each direction, with a minimum cycle time of 2 ms and bus-cycle times starting at 250 µs. The module provides two RJ45 EtherCAT ports, and is configured from within Control Builder Plus / PS501 with no separate configuration tool.
It runs from the 24 V DC PLC supply, supports a maximum cable length of 100 m between nodes and mounts on the AC500 communication-module rail with IP20 protection.
