The CI504-PNIO is a communication interface module for the ABB AC500 PLC system. It connects the AC500 I/O system to a PROFINET IO real-time network as an IO device, while additionally providing three independent serial interfaces for linking serial equipment such as drives, instruments and barcode readers.
The module integrates a PROFINET IO RT interface through its Ethernet port, which can also be used as a switch port for line and ring (MRP) topologies. Alongside this it offers three serial channels individually configurable for RS-232, RS-422 or RS-485 with ASCII protocol support, giving a compact gateway between field serial devices and the PROFINET controller.
The module is powered from the 24 V DC system supply (typical 0.15 A) with a 10 A fuse protection rating, and is built in the standard AC500 S500 I/O form factor for DIN-rail mounting beside the processor and I/O modules. It is configured within ABB Automation Builder.
