The CD522 is an encoder, counter and pulse-width-modulation function module for the ABB AC500 / S500 I/O system. It provides two independent counting channels supporting up to twelve configurable operating modes, including incremental position encoder inputs and frequency measurement up to 300 kHz, enabling high-speed acquisition from motion and positioning applications.
Two independent PWM / pulse outputs with push-pull drivers support pulse-train outputs for stepper and servo drives, while two dedicated 5 V power supplies feed connected encoders directly. The module supports 5 V RS-422 differential incremental encoders, HTL incremental encoders and SSI absolute encoders, with dedicated touch/set/reset inputs for capture functions.
Additional channels include two 24 V DC digital inputs and eight configurable 24 V DC digital inputs/outputs available for general use when not dedicated to counting functions. The module is galvanically isolated as a unit, mounts on a terminal unit on 35 mm DIN rail with IP20 protection, and an XC version is available for extreme ambient conditions.
