ACS-BRK-C Brake Chopper Unit (380-480 V)

The ACS-BRK-C is a brake chopper unit for ABB drive systems, designed to dissipate regenerative energy from decelerating motors through external brake resistors. It is rated for 380-480 V, 50/60 Hz operation and protects the drive DC bus from overvoltage during braking cycles.

The brake chopper monitors the DC-link voltage and connects the external brake resistor when the bus voltage rises during regenerative braking, converting surplus motor energy into heat in the resistor. It is installed in the drive panel and wired to the DC terminals and the external brake resistor.

Typical applications include hoists, cranes, centrifuges, conveyor braking and high-inertia or fast-cycling drive applications requiring dynamic braking.
