The ABB TF42-13 is a thermal overload relay for the AF contactor family, providing reliable overload protection for three-phase motors by means of temperature-compensated bimetal tripping elements. It mounts directly onto AF contactors in the 10–16 A contactor frame size to form a compact motor starter.
The relay covers a setting range of 10–13 A with Class 10 trip behavior (trips within 10 s at 7.2× current), suitable for standard motor starting duties. It includes a phase-failure (single-phasing) protection function per IEC 60947-4-1 and is selectable for manual or automatic reset. A N.O. and a N.C. auxiliary contact provide alarm and control-circuit signaling.
The trip mechanism is temperature compensated for stable performance across the -25 to +60 °C ambient range, and a STOP/TEST button on the front supports functional testing. Order code 1SAZ721201R1023 identifies the TF42-13 (10–13 A) version.
